Sedation

Options For Sedation For Nervous Patients

Don’t be concerned if the thought of going to the dentist makes you nervous. We see a lot of people who are afraid of dentistry at DS Dental. Perhaps they had a bad experience, or perhaps they had a parent who passed on their own anxieties. Many people have told us that their fears were not taken seriously in the past.

They Are Taken Seriously By Us

We do everything possible to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. We are happy to provide sedation dentistry if it is necessary for your comfort. It helps to reduce anxiety and allows us to do more in each visit, resulting in fewer overall visits with sleep dentistry.

  • Nitrous oxide (laughing gas): This relaxes and reduces anxiety. You will still be aware of what is going on, but you will be less concerned about it.
  • Nitrous oxide + anti-anxiety medications: This combination is effective for mild to moderate anxiety. Throughout the procedure, you will be awake but completely relaxed, though you may not remember it afterwards.
  • Intravenous sedation: Often used for wisdom teeth or difficult extractions, this “twilight sleep” sedation is also beneficial for patients experiencing moderate to severe anxiety. You’ll need someone to drive you home afterwards, and you’ll most likely forget the procedure.
  • General anesthesia: We use general anesthesia for people who have severe anxiety, have a strong gag reflex, or for children who need extensive work done. You will require someone to drive you home following your procedure.
  • Children’s sedation options: For children who are extremely anxious or who require extensive dental work, our sleep dentistry provides a variety of sedation options that will make the experience less stressful.
